Hey friends! I’m back with another installment of my “Office Hours” series where I share what it’s like to be a college professor. I always love reading “day-in-the-life” posts, so here’s what my Wednesday was like this week. If you want more info on what I do all summer, check out this post.
Let me start with a short disclaimer. I am a tenure-track professor at a research-focused institution. Therefore, my job is split up into three main responsibilities: research, teaching and service, in that order with research being paramount. This is not the case for everyone and just like people in non-academic jobs, we don’t all choose to spend our time the same way so this is only my take on how I choose to do my job.
8:15am – wake up, get dressed and ready, then walk the dog. If you want to know more about my morning routines, check out this post on Her Routine
9:15am – gather up my stuff and head into my office, with a pit-stop at Starbucks since it’s on the way
9:45 – 11am – get caught up on news, blogs, emails, and complete small admin tasks. Also partake in lots of office chit-chat, my favorite!
11am – meeting with a colleague about his study abroad program
12 – 1pm – meeting about integrating new technology into my classroom this fall
1 – 2pm – girls lunch at our favorite local Mexican spot
2 – 3:30pm – proofread a paper, check emails, organize my office a little bit
4pm – get home and walk the dog, then take a break!
6pm – pour some wine and think about goals for tomorrow since today wasn’t the most productive work day, make a list of things that have to get done by the end of the week. Complete some small tasks on that list to get a jump start!
7pm – reheat leftover pasta and eat while doing some blog stuff (like typing up this post)
8pm – shower, then face mask and whitening strips
8:30 – 10pm – relax in bed and count the minutes until the RHONY reunion premieres!
Hope you have a great weekend and thanks for following along with me! 🙂
What a schedule – what a busy, busy girl! I love that you have an organized routine down flat. It allows you to be more productive and get the very most out of each and every day. And I love Crest Whitening Strips – thanks for the reminder that I need to pick up another box when I’m at Target.

Seems like a great routine! Love your dog and your birkenstocks, too! Having a routine really makes all the difference in my day too.
